A successful convention held at the Palais du Pharo in 2014: «Routes Europe », 1,256 delegates
Hosted by Marseille-Provence Airport, the largest gathering of aviation professionals in Europe -named Routes Europe- took place in Marseille at Palais du Pharo April 4-8, 2014. Attended by 1,256 delegates and 125 airlines companies from 70 countries from all over the world, it was the largest congress ever and a great success with the planned opening of 10 new air routes in the pipeline.
Routes Europe is the region’s largest route development forum. The event enables the aviation industry’s decision makers from across Europe to examine air services, discuss new market opportunities and developments and get up to speed on potential new destinations.
Marseille was chosen as the host city for several reasons. France is one of the biggest aviation markets in Europe and is the most popular leisure destination in the world, while Marseille’s airport has been doing excellent work to accommodate both full service and low cost carriers.
As Pierre Regis, Managing Director, Marseille-Provence Airport, says: ‘Marseille Provence Airport in South East France on the Mediterranean is ideally located at the intersection of air, rail and road networks. It is the gateway to the South of France - to Marseille, to Provence, and to the French Riviera. The airport is France’s third largest regional airport for passenger traffic and the largest regional airport for cargo traffic. The airport has experienced ongoing traffic growth for years on and provides excellent air accessibility to 131 destinations with 37 airlines. It just made sense for Routes Europe to take place here.’
As Alexandru Szlivka, from Romanian airline TAROM, observed: ‘France will be always one of best chosen countries for such events. The 'savoir faire' of French people - and especially in Marseille - must be appreciated.’
